About Us

Westside Community Development Corporation (WCDC) was incorporated as an Indiana Not-for-Profit Corporation and granted its 501(c)(3) status in December 1985. WCDC was organized by the Christamore House (a neighborhood multi- service center) to help improve the Westside neighborhood in a variety of ways with housing being the focus of its efforts. WCDC provides a variety of housing services including housing development for home ownership and rental development. WCDC also provides home repair assistance through the use of volunteers, public and private grants.
Westside Community Development Corporation (WCDC) has made a clear commitment to the development of affordable housing. WCDC merged with another sister housing organization eleven years ago, which brought clarity and unification to the process of addressing housing needs of the Near Westside and it is the only Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) in the area. Since then housing has been the main mission of WCDC. Keeping this focus has allowed WCDC to greatly grow its housing production capacity. Since 1990, WCDC has completed over 250 units of housing development and about 500 units of home repair assistance. In addition to increasing our capacity in numbers, WCDC now also offers a number of different housing products. We have built a ladder of housing opportunity assisting a range of needs, from homeless to homeowner. WCDC is proud that a family can climb onto the ladder of housing opportunity wherever ever it best fits their current needs and future hopes, with the top rung of the ladder being home ownership. Since 1994, more than 140 units have been built or rehabbed and sold. WCDC celebrated selling its hundredth house in June 2003.

The ladder of housing opportunity is the strategic plan for WCDC. We offer transitional housing, rental housing, homeownership preparedness, home ownership development and home repair assistance. The WCDC Board is composed of a mix of neighborhood residents and housing and real estate professionals.
